One-year Qualifying Certificate

The Qualifying Certificate is for students who wish to enroll in a bachelor’s degree at Heritage but who do not meet the minimum admissions standards (including students from Ontario who do not have six grade twelve level ‘university preparatory’ courses). This certificate permits students to begin their college career while completing the academic credits required for program admission. Detailed information about entrance requirements to degree programs at Heritage is outlined in the Requirements for Admission section of this catalogue.

Process and Program Structure:

  • Each applicant’s high school transcripts are evaluated upon application to Heritage.
  • Degree program applicants who do not have the required high school credits are enrolled in the Qualifying Certificate and take up to six DQU courses.  DQU101 English Grammar I and DQU102 English Composition – Essay Writing are required in the program.  Students may select from the remaining four DQU courses in order to complete their program requirements.
  • All DQU courses must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.00 (a “C” grade) and are used to fulfill program admission requirements only.
  • All other courses taken during this year may be applied toward a degree program upon successful completion of this certificate.
